Brief profile

Gunter Süß is a media and cultural scholar specializing in the analysis of fictional media texts (film, TV and streaming series, music videos), applied cultural theory/Cultural Studies and Science Communication. He is also Director of Studies and currently Executive Director of the Institute for Competence, Communication & Languages at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.

Before joining the Faculty of Media, Süß was assistant professor at the IKKS (2013-2022) and at the Chair of American Studies at Chemnitz University of Technology (2000-2012). He obtained his PhD there in 2005 and his habilitation in 2015 (double venia legendi: American Studies and Media Studies).

His current research interests include the cultural, media and intellectual history of digitalization, particularly AI, as well as the intersections of cultural media analysis and Science Communication.

Gunter Süß is (co-)project leader of several research and teaching projects, including the HI-EURECA-PRO project at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, which is part of the European University Alliance EURECA-PRO. He teaches (mostly in English) in the BA program Global Communication in Business and Culture and in the MA programs Media Management and Media Informatics and Interactive Entertainment, as well as in the Studium Generale program.
