Objective

Become a leader in the media industry in a hands-on, part-time programme.

Become a leader in the media industry in a hands-on, part-time programme. New technologies, new business models, new opportunities. Rapid technological developments are putting the media industry under constant pressure to transform: challenges such as datafication and virtualisation are creating new tasks at the interfaces between media, management and technology. This requires managers with a keen understanding of technology and the ability to manage change.

Numerous players in the media landscape have joined forces with Mittweida University of Applied Sciences to train their future leaders in Leipzig. As a part-time Master's programme in Technology and Media Management, Media Production combines strong practical relevance with the many years of experience of HSMW's Faculty of Media in media training.

In Leipzig's MediaTechSpace, media specialists from film and TV production, management and journalism learn from each other and from real experts in innovative fields such as virtual production, augmented reality and artificial intelligence in an extremely real-world-oriented way.

Career prospects

New leaders for the new challenges of the media industry.

Increasing cost pressure and an ever finer granulation of target group interests are a challenge for all media companies. Fulfilling one's own aspirations and mission means using technological innovations in a targeted manner in order to produce better with new tools.

This disruptive process must be structured, lead and managed. This is why new areas of responsibility and structures are currently emerging within media companies, where young staff often become managers. Graduates of the part-time Master's degree programme Media Production: Innovation, Technology, Leadership take on these management tasks and steer the change processes as

  • Producers
  • Managing Directors
  • Product Managers/Product Owners,
  • Head of innovation labs,
  • Founder of a media start-up.

All fields of work require the ability to analyse qualitatively. Assessing the benefits of innovations requires research in a professional context, for which the part-time Media Production degree programme provides the necessary tools.

Structure

A strong focus on innovation, technology and leadership for the future of media.

Studying and working at the same time is a particular challenge. Many degree programmes are expensive, inflexible, difficult to combine with a career or their content is not aligned with professional reality. The part-time Master's in Media Production is the exact opposite:

  • Private study programme without fees in an ideal location: The Master Media Production is not a mass study programme. You work in small groups that allow for intensive dialogue and maximum productivity. The location of our MediaTechSpace right next to Leipzig's main railway station makes it easy to reach. And: there are no tuition fees.
  • Study with practical experts: It's not just the lecturers who bring extensive experience directly from their current work in well-known media companies. As a part-time postgraduate programme, Media Production itself attracts practitioners. The professional exchange between students broadens your perspective and helps you to take a fresh look at your own challenges.
  • The best of both worlds: Distance learning programmes have a problem: they require extreme discipline and at the same time lack the stimulating personal exchange. In addition to digital preparation in online courses, Media Production relies on regular face-to-face events in Leipzig. These are held at off-peak times and can therefore be easily combined with work.
